Casa Pablo Rodriguez

The colonial casa particular of Pablo is in the heart of Havana Vieja, close to all important things to see and do. The casa is on the second floor and has lovely colonial details like old frescos and an indoor kind of patio where the rooms are located. In the kitchen, where you can have your breakfast and dinner, has Pablo such a mineral water machine where the guests can tab their fresh cold drinks.
Pablo rents out two airconditioned rooms facing the inner patio
Pablo speaks English, French and Spanish

Casa Pablo Rodriguez is recommended and listed in the Lonely Planet Guidebook

Casa Pablo Rodriguez

My review: The casa is well located, just about a few minutes from Obispo and also a few blocks from Plaza Vieja.
Friendly old people, room is small, but clean and has a safe. In Lonely Planet is this casa listed, but it says room with en-suite bath. But the bathroom is separate and you have to share. That's the only thing we didn't like. The breakfast was OK for 3CUC pp.
Taxi brought us till the casa and the son in law is a taxidriver and brought us back to the airport.

Casa specifics: Quiet, Colonial, Safe
Amenities: Safety box, Airconditioning, Breakfast service, Extra bed available

Review

If you want a guesthouse instead of a casa particular this is your place.
Impersonal, the host are just not bothered about their guests ( unlike many other houses).
Location is very good but there is other houses arround that are better.

Casa specifics: Comfortable, Safe
Amenities: Safety box, Balcony, Ceiling fan
How was your room?: OK, no windows, no a/c.
Not very good
How was the food they offer?: The breakfast was expensive (compared with others in Havana Vieja) and minimalistic.
Other services they offer: Anything you want but be prepared, you will have to pay! Nothing is free in this casa.
For example there is a water filter with fresh water but you have to pay for the right to use it.
Other comments: As I said before if you want to be left alone and have the least relationship with your hosts, this could be a place. we stayed one night and run away!

Great location slap bang in Havana Vieja. Was disappointed by room not having it's own bathroom or air conditioning. Was also a bit uncomfortable with Saloon style doos that were far from soundproof.
Was a bit put off by Casa owner as it became apparent that money was more important to him than Service. He actually tried to charge my partner and I 5CUC to take a shower. Was not a good way to end our stay there. I would give this casa maximum of 3 points.

Casa specifics: Colonial
Amenities: Safety box
How was your room?: Room wasdecent size however there was no fridge in room, air conditioning or Private bathroom. Was alsoa bit noisy.
How was the food they offer?: Had Breakfast which was an additional 3 CUC. Was ok value for money as it would have cost a bit more to eat outside.
Other services they offer: Water for 1 CUC per day.
Other comments: No keys to front door given so you always have to knock to get back in.

Pablo Rodriguez and his wife Lidia could not have been more helpful. They really MADE our first visit to Havana an exceptionally positive experience. I speak only very little Spanish, but speak both English and French, both languages Pablo is quite fluent in...He seemed to anticipate things we might have questions about and has a valuable fund of information about his neighbourhood, and directed us to sources we needed. He and Lidia made us feel we were staying with friends, especially when we returned to their casa after spending several days in the Trinidad area. I would definitely return there, recommend them to friends. FIVE stars!

The casa was nice and cleen and Pablo & Lidia were very friendly and helpful, but the stay was not so good because someone went in our romm and stole 60 euros out of the safe (locked room and safe) Pablo changed the safes and doorlock but we did´nt feel safe there after this incident.
Sad because the casa was good otherwise!

Casa style: Quiet
How was your room?: Nice room
How was the food the offer?: Simple but good food

Pablo and Lidia are very helpful, give good advises, call taxi to the airport.
The casa is nice, quiet and near Plaza Vieja, the most beautiful plaza of Havana.
Unfortunately there are NO private bathrooms, the bathrooms are shared.

Casa style: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Colonial, Charming, Safe
How was your room?: Nice, colonial, doors and windows to the central hall which is open-air. Fan, no airco (but we like the fan more!). Bathrooms are shared.
How was the food the offer?: Breakfast is basic.

We enjoyed our stay very much, thanks to Pablo and Lidia. It was good to meet the other visitors in the 'common area'. Breakfast was always excellent (fresh fruit, bread and fried eggs followed by strong coffee).
