This little joint, restaurant El Monguito, has just five plastic tables with plastic lawn chairs in a narrow room. Plastic flowers in cheap vases, a couple of squawking parrots in the back, and some kitsch, semi holographic nature scenes on the main wall complete the ambience.
The bistec Uruguayo, a kind of deep-fried pork cordon bleu, is huge, and the pollo a la cacerola, baked chicken in a tomato sauce, is excellent. Try to get a seat near one of the fans, because, despite the massive air-conditioning unit, this place can get a little stuffy, especially midday.
