At CASA MARITZA's - you become "family" as much (or as little ) as you like. Close to centre of town (& Casa Grande Hotel patio overlooking park). Pics don't do justice to large room (with stocked fridge, a/c) and large colonial shuttered windows opening onto quiet Padre Pico (lots of people - almost no vehicles).
Maritza's meals are excellent. (Husband Antonio pitched on Cuba national team / showed me how to throw a screwball.) No young kids.
They can arrange / accommodate anything you want to do.
Thirty-something brother Alexei knows everyone as well as what's going on: will take you to "La Trova" or anyplace else in or out of town ( or not - your call).
We went to Guantanamo look-out (Malones) en route Baracoa where we stayed a couple of days & had a great time notwithstanding I'm twice his age. We are still in touch. He's an educated, well-informed, trained aeronautical engineer who was declared surplus (if you catch my drift) when Cubana stopped using Russian planes on its international routes. NOT a hustler - rather, a thoroughly well-spoken, helpful, deserving guy.
At MARITZA's you'll have a "local" experience & the price is right - neither of which is true at the Casa Grande Hotel. Cuban people (all of them) NEED your custom, (though they're too proud to say so), more than the owner of the big hotels.
