Hacienda El Caney
Santiago de Cuba

Tel: + 53 22/68-7134

Frommers: A good option if you just want to relax and take a break from the relentless sensory inputs Cuba throws at you, this tranquil, handsome 1930s country hacienda -- about 3km (1 3/4 miles) from downtown Santiago -- serves lunch under awnings out by a small backyard pool. Light meals, including sandwiches, pizza, and soup are available, as are fish, shrimp, smoked pork, and pollo asado al limón (roasted chicken with lemon) main courses. A trio plays under the trees. Three rooms are rented out in case you just can't bear to go back to the city.

Hotel Casa Granda
Parque Céspedes
Santiago de Cuba

Wcities: This is a spacious establishment, separated from the lobby of the hotel by large glass panels. The atmosphere is friendly, the temperature cool, and it is a very easygoing and tasteful place to pass the time of day or night. It has well spaced-out tables, and background music, usually instrumental, fills the air; the bar counter is made of wood, and there are some ornamental structures made of green and grey marble. After five in the afternoon, a band of traditional Cuban musicians perform. The part of the bar that receives all the sunshine is protected by canopies. On the menu expect lasagne, cannelloni, pizza, spaghetti, ice cream, domestic and imported beer, fruit juice, soft drinks and cocktails

Canalcubano: Nowadays it is the best restaurant of the city and the complete buffet of the Sol Meliá chain in Cuba. Its culinary offer is excellent, offering food from different countries. With a pleasant and professional service. A good wine cellar, it´s installed in the same hall where you can also eat.

El Cayo

Cayo Granma
Santiago de Cuba
Tel: +53 22 690109

Canalcubano: In a little isle near Santiago Bay where you can arrive in a boat from a near harbor, you can be in this charm restaurant that prepares fishes and shellfishes of high quality.

Frommers: This relaxing spot for lunch is a boating excursion and dining outing rolled into one. In a pretty blue-and-white clapboard waterfront house on a tiny island in the middle of the Bay of Santiago -- you have to take a $3 round-trip ferryboat from the Marlin Marina to get there -- is this breezy, tranquil restaurant that's popular with organized groups but is perfect for independent travelers, too. Sit on the covered wraparound balcony overlooking the water and try any of the specialties, which quite logically are seafood dishes: Spanish mackerel, lobster, red snapper, marlin, or fish soup.

Wcities: A walk around Santiago Bay is best finished off by a visit to the headland and the Cayo restaurant. Inside the restaurant the decoration follows a maritime theme and regardless to say there is a good view of the sea. The dining areas are air conditioned and there is also a bar and an outdoor terrace. On the menu expect a fine selection of Cuban and international seafood dishes, including the now famous Mariscada del Cayo, consisting of lobster, shrimps, garfish fillet and shellfish. Beverages include soft drinks and cocktails.

Reviews restaurant La Cocinita

Name: Rick
Country: Canada

One of my favorite restaurants in Santiago is La Cocinita. Cheap and delicious fried chicken and plantain meals for about USD. Don't freak out when you see the menu the prices are in pesos. I don't know what the Cubans fry their food in but it sure tastes good! Be forewarned...the washroom is quite disgusting, but useable.
This restaurant allows both Cubanos and touristos so be aware of some hustlers in the entrance.

Casa Don Antonio
Calle Aguilera entre Calvario y Reloj
Santiago de Cuba
+53 22 65 2205

Canalcubano: Among a group of restaurants located in the colonial center. A basically Cuban menu , where you can highlight the "Filete de pescado Don Antonio". The culinary level is more than acceptable. A "Son" group makes the food pleasant.

Wcities: Don Antonio is one of the restaurants that offers a view of the centrally placed Plaza de Dolores. It can seat up to sixty people and serves a selection of international and local cuisine. The dining area has a colonial atmosphere very much in harmony with the appearance of the city. The spacious premises has large windows and are decorated with stained glass and period lamps and furnishings. This eatery building once belonged to the Marquises of the Candelarias. Speciality of the house is the “Boulevard fillet, consisting of steak, pork, chicken and cheese; there are also all sorts of beverages and Cuban and international cocktails.

Santiago de Cuba
Tel: +53 22/62-4700

Canalcubano: On the first floor of a colonial house close to the Céspedes garden, this paladar, one of the most crowded, offers a tasty santiaguera food.

Frommers: Four sisters run this friendly, down-home upstairs place just a couple blocks from Parque Céspedes. Portions are large, the food is pretty good, and the spacious dining room -- a cross between a living room and a salon -- has a peaked beam ceiling, four tables (including two on balconies overlooking the street), an ornate chandelier, and red satin curtains. The house specialty is lamb; there's also smoked pork and the predictable chicken. All dishes come with rice and salad. Go early or late; many nights the tiny place is full, though the wait usually isn't long.

Tel: (22) 687040

Canalcubano: The luxurious restaurant of the Meliá Santiago has been improved with the right management of the hotel and it has been placed as one of the most reliable and tasties to eat in this town. Diverse Menu but balanced where fish and sea products outstands. Academic service and prices not too high.

Frommers: This small, romantic restaurant serves up French-influenced cuisine in a tranquil and elegant setting. I recommend the fresh grouper in a saffron sauce, served over a bed of spinach. You also can't go wrong with the roasted duck breast with caramelized papaya. There's a decent and reasonably priced wine list, and the service is attentive and efficient. Dinner here gets you a free entrance into the hotel's nightly cabaret show.

Club Led Sports Bar & Cafeteria
Santiago De Cuba
I had: Dinner at 8/20/2017

Went to eat at La Meson at night. This place caught my attention because of all the lighting and the people taking pictures. I went to look at the place and was amazed at the architecture and the design. I have traveled all cuba and I have yet to see something like this. Ask the people that were outside and was told by what it seem to be a guard that it was going to be a sports bar/ restaurant. I was very impressed with this place. I would give it a thumbs up.From what I saw it is going to be Unique in Cuba, they have a full render album of how it will look once it is finished. I was totally impressed with it, I have been to a LOT of restaurants in Cuba but nothing like this. They are just like an American sports bar with a iPads POS system and man talk about LEDs. I guess that's why they call it Club LED lol they are going to have ove a thousand led lights can't wait till I go back and see it done.

El Morro
Cocina criolla
Carret. del Morro, km. 8,5
Santiago de Cuba
Tel: +53 22 691576

Canalcubano: At the base of the Morro fortress this restaurant is located in a terrace with a splendid sea view. They make a native and traditional food with a good shellfish selection. Warm and affective service.

Frommers: A hugely popular and pleasant open-air place, perched on the coast near the fortress of the same name and boasting spectacular views of the sparkling blue Caribbean Sea, this restaurant, happily, isn't a tourist trap. Putting El Morro into the "expensive" category is a bit misleading; it offers a good-value $12 lunch for groups and a series of $10 platos fuertes (main courses with accompaniments). Try the lobster if you're in a mood to splurge; otherwise, there's a fish filet stuffed with cheese, spicy shrimp, and chicken with pineapple. The long black tables are under a wood-beamed canopy thick with vines and hanging plants and white tumbergia flowers, a most welcome refuge from the scorching sun that makes midday at El Morro fortress a daunting proposition.

Wcities: This restaurant offers a selection of popular local dishes. Decorated in a colonial-style, the dining salon is well lit, has wooden tables and stools and a view of the sea; there are also outdoor tables. The menu offers many exquisite and exotic concoctions such as Delicias del Morro (Delights of the Morro) which consists of fish and prawns with a grated cheese topping; the Langosta Mariposa (Butterfly Lobster) and Tasajo. The recommended house drink and meal accompaniment is the Piña Delicia (Pineapple Delight), prepared with Silver Dry and Havana Club Añejo 7 years old rum. The rest of the menu offers a choice of stews, pork, chicken and fish dishes, including congrí (black beans with white rice), and all sorts of syrupy desserts. Drinks include Cuban and international cocktails, wines, beer, fruit juices and soft drinks.

Canalcubano: An old place renewed and devoted to the universal musician Compay Segundo. The place is decorated with personal things from him, guitars, discs, trophies, scores and even there is here his grandfather´s saddle. The menu is very attractive especially its "Sopa de Quimbombó" -Quimbombó Soup-, the "Boniato Relleno" - Stuffed Sweet Potato-, the "Plátano con Bacalao" -Banana with Cod- and finally, pig in many of its tasteful varieties.

Malecon Siboney

Reviews Restaurant El Patio del Chef

September 11 2012
Name: Victoria Jenssen
Country: Canada
I had lunch there at: 5/1/2011

Restaurant El Patio del Chef

My review: This is a fabulous outdoor restaurant with thatched roofs that has enormous appeal for European visitors...mainly the exotic decor with plants and the happy expansive host, Jose Ruano.
Specialty is seafood, even lobster.
located on Avenida del Malecon (seawall) and you really have to look for the sign. Don't give up!
Spend a day at the beach in Siboney, lunch here, or stop on the way to the Cuban National Car Museum which is a trip...must be seen to be believed.

Patio de los Abuelos
Francisco Perez Cardbo #5, across from the Plaza de Marte
Santiago de Cuba
Tel: 22/62-3302

Wcities: Located just above the Plaza de Marte, access to the cafeteria is via a stairway, which also leads to the Tourist Bureau of Cultural Information. So between drinks and snacks, you can also get advice on many of the places and art events worth visiting in the city. On the menu expect fillet of fish, loin of pork, chips, cocktails, fruit juice, soft drinks and beer, as well as a selection of rums and other spirits. Live traditional music is performed on weekends.

Cuba-Junky: At a roof top, with a big outside terace.... Our favorite restaurant in Santiago de Cuba

Canalcubano: In this nice house of a residential area you can find perhaps the best paladar of Santiago. We recommend you to make a resevation in the beautiful terrace.

Frommers: One of the most elegant paladares in Cuba -- in fact, it's swankier than most state-owned and hotel restaurants -- this attractively decorated place, with stained-glass windows, lace tablecloths, and high-backed chairs, also has a terrific, breezy, plant-covered terrace. The views are excellent; it's a marvelous environment for having a couple of beers . . . and waiting interminably for your dinner. I only wish the service -- which I found to be unpardonable -- matched the care taken in fixing the place up. Some nights they seem to bring out more and more tables, but very little food. The menu offers interesting items like chickpea stew, pork cordon bleu, shish kabobs, liver, and barbecued chicken. The paladar is quite popular with smooching Cubans as well as bored jineteras with their romantic "dates."

La Taberna de Dolores
Cocina española
Aguilera #468 y Reloj
Santiago de Cuba
Tel: (22) 623913

Canalcubano: Located in a valuable colonial building of the XVIII century. It has a native food with a little short menu and with a current quality. The prices, contained.

Wcities: A venue housed in an old colonial town house, with a rustic-looking bar counter, tables and stools all made out of wood, and decorated with paintings and objects that have a certain nostalgic air about them. Found close to Dolores Park, one of the city’s main gathering points the bar has two balconies, one that faces the park itself; the other looking onto an inner patio. You can sit at the bar or at the tables, selecting from a menu that offers fried chicken, congris (black beans and rice), salads, fried and stewed pork, pork cutlets, domestic and imported beers, wines, rums and soft drinks.

Canalcubano: It belongs to a Canadian-Cuban chain. The locale is pleasant and very well located. The varied meat offer makes you difficult to choose, its just wonderful and with a quality that is the envy of the other restaurants. This place is for travelers that don’t want to be mistaken.

Wcities: El Toro is a top-class restaurant that specialises in beef steak. As well as offering a welcoming atmosphere and efficient service, this place has excellent discount offers for groups. It is easily recognizable from the Caney road, just look out for a modern looking façade covered in climbing plants. Inside the decoration is heavily wild-west, aided by some old furniture, a collection of saddles, bulls heads and appropriate types of plants. All the meat is imported straight from Canada and there is a full international drinks list, including wine, whiskey, beer and cocktails.

Tel: +53 22 64-1369 / 22 64-1528

Canalcubano: It was once the Tocororo restaurant with a phenomenal mansion on a residential avenue. International food , based in quality shellfish. The wines menu is quite varied. It’s one of the most luxurious restaurants of the city.

Frommers: This elegant and upscale restaurant occupies a handsome 1940s house in the Vista Alegre neighborhood. It has five private salons for intimate dining, and a couple of tables on a broad front veranda, which are my favorites. With relatively soft lighting, marble floors, and period furnishings -- some original to the house -- ZunZún (formerly Tocororo) is the place in town to splurge. Everything is very well prepared and nicely presented. It's especially good for seafood, like a mixed grill of fish and shellfish; medallions of lobster, shellfish, and shrimp; garlic shrimp; and lobster with cilantro sauce. Carnivores can opt for a beef filet in red-wine sauce or a spicy lamb stew. The tables here have white tablecloths and candles -- rarities in Cuba.
